Developer Diaries: Professions

We are planning on implementing Professions very soon. We can't announce exact dates yet, but we are ready to reveal some of our plans! :) However, the feature is still under development, so some things might change.

Each player will have access to all the "crafting" professions:
Tailoring - create items using patterns (for example, basic green/blue quality items), with no mastery progression.
Cooking - cook wholesome food with positive effects (buffs), the quality of which will depend on your level of mastery.
Jewelery - fashion accessories and create orbs, the quality of which will depend on your level of mastery.
Alchemy- mix balms, potions, the quality of which will depend on your level of mastery.
Inscription - author scrolls and similar items using recipes, the quality of the items produced will depend on level of mastery.

Each player will have one "gathering" profession of their choice:
Geology - hire prospectors to gather resources. There will be different sets of prospectors for different resources and battles over mines. There also will be a chance to destroy someone else's prospector or assist your own.
Hunting - collect pelts and meat of different beasts after combat. The chance of collecting them depends on the damage dealt, similarly to drops. Install traps in locations to lure rare beasts, which drop rare ingredients.
Fishing - catch fish in designated areas, and install nets for major fishing. This is a peaceful profession with no global competition, however, some arguments may arise over extremely rare types of fish ;)
Farming - grow plants in designated areas, there will be 1 to 5 such areas in every location, different plants require different types of soil. The time for a plant to grow and ripen will depend on its type. There also will be an option to rent the fertile grounds in the Eldiren Farmstead. Peaceful profession without the global competition, however some tension might appear over very rare plants.

Looks good, can't wait it to come. Thanks
These are more than even I hoped for :D
Ohhhh! How am I to decide?! Do I mine or do I farm....oh the choices?!

Can we change professions at some point like we can change class if we find out that what we chose originally isn't working out?

If we cannot change later, then can we test drive the professions, just like we can the different dragons before having to make a choice?
This will definitely add a much needed new dimension to the game. I can hardly wait!
Happy New Year, the professions look absolutely fantastic i cant wait to see it implemented.

Keep up the fantastic work.

All the best
Nice! Cant wait
I'm so excited
Cool ideas here. Would it be possible to add a new profession called the "Blacksmith" or something. His ability would be to take current items, and change their class for a fee or materials. For example, you have a pair of Golden Eagle Greaves that you can't wear cause you a berserker. Just take that item to the blacksmith and for a fee he can alter it into Barbarian Legs for you to wear.
fishing FTW! will we be able to afk during fishing? or will require constant actions?
well i do hope this is the rafle comenting spot because heavens voice is trolling me with it so i am finally doing it..... now i would like to go back to enjoying the game wihout seeing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over......now you get it to
Alchemy!!!!!! good work guys. thanks for all of this
cannot wait all of the professions have good abilities to help you out in battle or cash wise if needed just one more thing to make this great game ever better
sounds good! hope it comes soon. And hope I'm high enough level for it, lol
sounds like a good way to make money in game ... and how about armorer, weaponsmith, miner, enchanter ... oooh, maybe even an Idiot or fool profession
I would rather have a lot more options by way of armor and weapons for different levels... but I guess this is cool too...
I'm quite excited about getting new things - I'm just hoping it doesn't change the general focus of the game away from combat!
I gona need to make some potions.
