Developer Diaries: Professions

We are planning on implementing Professions very soon. We can't announce exact dates yet, but we are ready to reveal some of our plans! :) However, the feature is still under development, so some things might change.

Each player will have access to all the "crafting" professions:
Tailoring - create items using patterns (for example, basic green/blue quality items), with no mastery progression.
Cooking - cook wholesome food with positive effects (buffs), the quality of which will depend on your level of mastery.
Jewelery - fashion accessories and create orbs, the quality of which will depend on your level of mastery.
Alchemy- mix balms, potions, the quality of which will depend on your level of mastery.
Inscription - author scrolls and similar items using recipes, the quality of the items produced will depend on level of mastery.

Each player will have one "gathering" profession of their choice:
Geology - hire prospectors to gather resources. There will be different sets of prospectors for different resources and battles over mines. There also will be a chance to destroy someone else's prospector or assist your own.
Hunting - collect pelts and meat of different beasts after combat. The chance of collecting them depends on the damage dealt, similarly to drops. Install traps in locations to lure rare beasts, which drop rare ingredients.
Fishing - catch fish in designated areas, and install nets for major fishing. This is a peaceful profession with no global competition, however, some arguments may arise over extremely rare types of fish ;)
Farming - grow plants in designated areas, there will be 1 to 5 such areas in every location, different plants require different types of soil. The time for a plant to grow and ripen will depend on its type. There also will be an option to rent the fertile grounds in the Eldiren Farmstead. Peaceful profession without the global competition, however some tension might appear over very rare plants.

Sweet. Can't wait for it to happen. :)
very awesome, i can't wait to get my Profession :)">
keep it up the good work our admins :)">
Woo potion making ftw!
hunting, i will go with hunting to skin all that lay hands on me
i am interested for that crafting stuff but what you can do as an update, is to create a bigger Highscore so that all can see what place they are in reputation, valor and exp.
happy new year admins and thx again for everythin.
hmmm... Such wonderful news! Now when the new players ask when they can pick their professions, we can say SOON!!! (sparkler)
I'll admit it sounds interesting. However, I worry that the space in our already delicately balanced inventory will be overcrowded with perhaps less than direly important items. I also wonder how this will affect the realm of PvP, perhaps with custom potion setups gaining the upper hand over hard earned gear/weapons. Time will tell.
I cant wait for these to start will just make this game even better then it already is
yay now i can become a potion maker this is going to be awesome
I think I just died and went to heaven, I was expecting maybe 3 professions, But this is a whole new level! Even Fishing! Fishing!! I'm so excited for this update i think im going to ... *explodes into confetti*!
I have to agree with Shaft here, the backpack is so easily overcrowded as it is. Could this cause even more issues? I look forward to finding out.
i can't wait to see how this all works out. this could change the whole game as we know it. giving people possible ways to get armor then buying one peice at a time for 30g at a time would really help mid level players out ALOT. wouldn't hurt more advanced ones either!
Im Lovin this plan cant wait to see it in effect it will be great fun having more to do than simply kill stuff...dont get me wrong...killin stuff is cool as heck but comon.....even Braveheart and Maximus had jobs to perform lol killing was a reward game for them lol kinda like a party bonus!!! Bring it I AM ready! lol brilliant idea folks.(serpentine)
Arguments over fish?! Love it, fish slapping at dawn. Can't wait guys, it will really add some more depth.
professions sound cool, gathering sounds different. shaft pretty much called it about the inventory needs, perhaps more auctions? lol

honestly would rather have more quests though,,,
Professions are a good idea, but perhaps you should have a personal player bank where they could store their stuff so their backpacks arent so overloaded. Great idea on the whole just remember think it all through and take your time as you have been. Good work!
You sould later add mercinary. which helds attack or defend expiditions.
