
Clan Wars: Discussion

Warriors! We are currently working on brand new clan wars which many of you are waiting for eagerly. We want to make these new changes so that event would be interesting and fair to everyone. Few words on how we're expecting the new clan wars to look.
Main changes from the previous format of Clan Wars:
1) All wars will start twice a week - at 21:00 on Wednesdays and 16:00 Saturdays.
2) Duration of wars reduced to 2 hours.
3) If clan wants to participate in a war Clan Leader or someone with necessary permissions needs to press button "We want to Fight" in diplomacy tab no less than 24 hours before the start.
4) Enemy is chosen automatically using several variables to make the fights as balanced as possible while avoiding putting two same clans one against each other too often. Until the start of war you do not know who you'll fight.
5) Requirements and fight mechanics in general will stay unchanged. However new events like "destroy a caravan with ammunition" that will reward extra points and consumables might be added. Contribution and Seal of Defeat removed completely.
6) If you pressed button that you want to participate in next War day you cannot cancel your participation.
7) Heroism rewards will be doubled from previous wars.
Rewards: Heroism for fights as well as bonus points for most active members in them. Sydian and clan reputation as well as some other rewards. While little bit less than winners losers will also receive both Sydian and Clan Reputation! However only winners will be rewarded with Heroism. It will all depend on your own activity!
From our point of view only few active clans were constantly participating in wars and we'd like to see that changed with new format of Clan Wars and for it to stay active even after first month of changes. I could lower AS down to 35 people, but would be kicking a couple people that would not be able to make it for wars, even though they contribute other things to clan, that would be the deciding factor, unfortunately. I like my 25 very active + 15 sometimes active members. Maybe, Hopefully, Sometime, all will be online for the same war... but not likely.
My Objection is because, I believe, reducing number of clan members will not actually help, as too many believe they Want to run a clan, until they actually do it. There are many other things that should be fixed with the clan chest first. Fix the security issues first, see if that gets more players to love the game.
Also, I once suggested putting a level Minimum Requirement forced on clans. Let people start in a level 1 clan and work up to being strong enough to be in a level 3 clan. Stop the alts/rerolls (and soon rebirths) from getting clan gear and destroying the low level chances of winning confrontation and having fun in arena. Nothing ruins a new player's fun as much as getting slaughtered in the arena by a full blue reroll.
1.) For lower levels, I think 5 minutes per fight, 120 minutes of war = 24 fights, which is plenty of gear damage. Everyone has different gear, but I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest 5-10g of damage is possible in a war. If sparing people that expense makes them more likely to participate, then I say spare it.
2.) Penalty vs. not is a matter of opinion, but I think the ultimate problem if admins chose to implement one would be deciding what is considered "enough" damage to not be penalized.
3.) I tossed out my #3 idea as sort of a building block for anyone to improve on. One of the things I'm consistently reading in this thread is that nobody is excited about the idea of running up against a pandor/RF/etc. crew in clan wars. If a basically unbeatable clan is combined with no heroism for losers, lots of gear damage, and a penalty for not wanting to fight, I think we have a loser of a war system. Totally happy to hear alternatives (however, IW is not an alternative because no heroism is rewarded and Vortex is not an alternative because it never actually runs; also neither is a team based activity anyways).
Few wars will give everyone improvement idea(s).
Alliances should be removed from game because they really serve no purpose currently other then protecting people from attacking a alliances ship. If anyone can think of a use other then that I would be glad to hear it.
I do like the idea of no gear damage. They point of game is not to penalize people for participating. Too many players hold this idea as control or a way for them to dictate the game to be played in their way. (Will BC you till you stop playing and leave game, which is a very common practice and fear of some players) we want penalities to keep control.
I think most ideas are good and reasonable. But we still have one major flaw in any of the ideas. The balance of power in clans. It wasn't that the old system was broken. We all enjoyed them (at least I did) though two hours does sound way better, but pearls made good point that stalling at two hours is a legit tactic now. We (AS IN PLAYERS NOT NINTH AGAIN I DONT SPEAK FOR NINTH. IF I'M GOING TO SPEAK AS A NINTH PLAYER I WILL SAY "IN NINTH WE" OR AS A NINTH PLAYER HOPE THAT IS CLEAR) didn't participate to avoid 2-3 clans. Or attacked smaller clans to avoid 2-3 clans. Why I think shrinking clans is reasonable and remove alliances. Prevents the powers that be to reside in 2 clans. Increasing clan size I think is a horrible idea.
Also people keep talking about rewards being a determinate factor. I don't think it will. If any other aspect of game will dictate losing amount is never worth it. (With exception of a small amount of heroism, that I agree with everyone on) So sydian from a fight will prob be1-5 for winning side not losers, so you don't actually benefit. What is a amount for clan to benefit for sydian, 100 ... 200... 1k. In my eye that is not worth a war, rather just spend time and gold attacking sydian mines. Also would be amazed if it ever got close to 1k reward lol. I still like my original suggestion to make part of victory of a war control over a island for a week or if you lose a war opposing clan gets control. Like capture the flag. So no one but your clan an mine it. After a week you lose control and it becomes open again. With say limit of two islands a clan. One doesn't garantee sydian, players still have to be active to collect two, works towards the problem of balancing out clans.
In my opinion, Decreasing clan size will not prevent the 2 clans from being full of level 70s, Changing clan sizes only reduces the odds that AS can get 25+ people to 1 war against an 'older' clan that happens to only get 10 people in. I (personally) need those 20+ people per link to even challenge Elitists/HF/Ninth. If clan size is reduced, it decreases my chances of challenging others, not increases.
Those that want to fight for top damage and heroism will be better to join weaker clans, giving them the best odds of getting that top award. Maybe some will see this when wars start and will start moving around. Why be a little fish in a big pond, when I can be a big fish in a small pond. Same will go for wars, why be 10th in damage, when you can go to a smaller clan, and be 1st.

I strongly recommend you remove those comments. I will not start a flame war against your clan on this forum, as you, personally, were NOT the one that approached me about AS declaring on Ninth and why it was requested.

In my opinion this is EXACTLY the wrong tack to take. You can already see it in action in sea battle. Decreased participation, resentment against players who go in unbuffed/unmounted etc. You want increased participation? Give heroism to the losing side. You may disagree with me but I'd argue players are letting you know indirectly by leaving the game altogether.
Otherwise, deploy war already!
Have certain war sites designated for certain level brackets like Winery for level 1-20, Watermill for level 21-40 so on so forth. Clan leader do not have to kick no one from clan but if they want to participate and win clan war then they will have to make a balance level clan instead of bonecrushing level 66 win\th good rank and purple gear repetitively until they join your clan. This is the tactic ihit and admin encourage and that is also way people are leaving this game for other games.
Give back the original war system.
Too many trying to get there book on war recommendation published.
Reputation sets players apart.
Rushing to level 70 screaming for more balance is no different.
Administration should not take wars away to begin with.
Whats the point of working hard to get reputation if you cant show it off in war!

People who go in unbuffed or use weak consumables will barely be rewarded if any. Heroism for losing side isn't going to happen.

Original War System had it's own issues.
Are the rewards partially/completely based on buff/consumable quality or are u referring to worse consumables -->less dmg--> less rewards?
Most likely both will be taken into account.

An interesting conversation might be, would the rewards be increased for someone who won and didn't buff, against someone that was?
Of course because losers get lowered rewards of Clan Reputation/Sydian and no heroism.
Ihit - I respectfully disagree. There are reduced rewards in arenas and we still buff up to wreck each other. Plus clan pride would dictate to me that we try to rack up and many wins as possible, which means winning fights (plus you get greater rewards and rank up faster by winning rather than losing anyhow).

My thoughts on the war system
1. twice a week wars- great idea, gives people time to set there schedules a little to maybe be able to do atleast 1 war a week. the 2 hr things, i am not sure about this for two reasons, stall tatic that was mention may be a big crasher of the new war system. and 2 does the rate to win change, or does that increase. what about the crystals u get from each spot does it go up to make up for the less time? i dont think anyone has asked these things yet...
2. sydian for fighting even if u lose, that will make me wanna fight no matter what, getting it on the island is dang near imposibble at times and when you do. gl getting it back with people allways on the hunt for boats to attack.
3. the crystals we used to get, do we still get to get these items? if not what happens to the ones we have? how do we get these now to make the items that require them? does those get changed to sydian to make them?
