Once a year, priests from the Temple of Dragons in both Sadar and Vaalor go on a pilgrimage, and everyone is free join them. After prayers in the Temples are said, Sadarians and Vaalorians gather on their Empire's main squares and then go north until they reach the Kmeer mountains. Outlanders who decide to join the ceremonial procession are very surprised upon reaching the destination. What they see is a lifeless canyon, covered with magical minerals. In the middle of the canyon is the Great Chasm. There are no monuments nor altars in this place. The Knossos Canyon itself is a monument, a reminder of the day when the Great Dragons saved Tartu and the entire world of Adan.
In the Second Great War, Dark Gods of Shaab amassed a huge army in the northern part of Tartu. Legions of monsters whose wills and bodies were twisted by the Blight were joined by Sturgs, the "walking fortresses", giant bugs Baltzars, stone turtles and mountain giants. Wyverns soared in the sky, mounted by Tangors, Masters of the Void, who commanded armies of mind-controlled slaves. When the dark legions marched across the Kmeer mountains, it looked like black rivers flooded the chasms and crevices. Resolute as Tartu's defenders were, they knew they were facing certain death.
In this desperate hour, the Elder Dragons called upon their creators, the three Great Dragons. Their call was answered. The Great Dragon's gigantic wings eclipsed the sky, casting Adan into shadow. Armies of Adan, hordes of Shaab's spawns and legions of Tangor slaves converged on the place of the final battle, the Knossos Canyon. To overcome their eternal foes, the Great Dragons united their strength. Their ethereal bodies merged into The One, a three-headed Dragon of colossal might. Like a furious comet, this mighty beast dove from the skies onto the hordes of Shaab and Tangor. Most of Shaab's forces were destroyed, the few survivors fled, hiding from the wrath of Tartu's defenders. However, even the great Dragons can't destroy the Dark Gods forever. Shaab, weakened and without minions, were banished to the Abyss and Gates of Abyss sealed with a powerful spell.
In the years fthat followed, strange crystals appeared on the dead slopes of the canyon. Priests of the Dragons claim that these crystals are tears of the Elder Dragons who mourn the death of their lesser brethren. Magical powers surge through these crystals, allowing those versed in the art of magic to improve their skills and abilities. However, with the exception of the days of pilgrimage, Knossos Canyon remains empty and the crystals untouched. Some fear to disturb the souls of the fallen heroes, others fear the wrath of the Elder Dragons. And finally, there are those who won't approach the Gates of Abyss out of fear that the magical seal will be broken and the Gates will swing open again, bringing endless pain and suffering to Adan...
