Clan wars are brutal, though fun. Add some spice to them and open space for hired mercs. With the prereqs that the hired merc is clanless, and that you can only hire mercs of the opposing faction.

Big Spenders will abuse this system for for easy money and easy valor/heroism

also think you can be a merc for wars already, just the clan has to hire you before they declare the war or get declared on
