Changing characters "affiliation"

I have a friend who is Saadar and wants to be Vaalor for a clan we're forming. Is there a way for that to be done or would he have to jail his old character and start all over?

I think you have to start over. you used to be able to purchase the right to do so via email to the developers but I dont think that works anymore
