How can I tell if I have been cursed? I am a level 16 player who cant even defeat a level 10 enemy without help from potions!

Any buffs or debuffs can be seen right under your health bar on top left side of screen. You currently have no curses on you and it's normal that with your equipment you need help of potions/orbs to defeat monsters.
