The items will stay stuck in the tavern room until you repay your rent. They will not disappear or appear in your backpack. They will be exactly where they are now, you just can't access them until you pay the new months rent costs. (This does mean that if you don't have the rent money you should remove anything you are going to need and put it in your backpack before the timer is up)
