How do I go about gaining reputation for a hunter?

are you talking about hunter profession or hunter reputation. Just in case its hunter reputation: 1.) open shop and go under 'professions and tools' 2.) find 'small hunters kit' in there and buy it. 3.) open backpack and equip that kit.
Now when u fight mobs there is a chance that you hunter kit will track a mob. Kill that mob and earn hunter rep and hunter collection pieces.

Ishaballa, Hunter Kit (reputation) is not available at level 9. It's been recently changed and is now level 29.
