something I wrote for a contest.

I wrote this for a contest recently... sadly I did not win.

I remember the first encounter. The rage and lust of it. The agony and bliss of it. It was a blessing and a curse. We were young and innocent. Naive and ignorant. As is always the first time. As time wore on we became familiar with one another and accustomed. Our injuries hid the truth. If only they knew. Yet it had to end. It came a time there was no escaping what we both saw coming. On the field of battle we began our playact like so many timed before. The foreplay of it. But this time one intervened, or shall I say two. It was a war of our fathers, and so we entered our graves by their means. We each shielding the other from the ones with blackened hearts. I faded before her. The minutes of wait was an eternity a second. But in death we were together at last. As two phantoms in the night. For eternity and forever each dusk till light.
