Level 1 to Level 2 only need clan experience points. If you go to the clan tab, then Info there it tells you your progress. So far from my testing it looks like 2,000 player exp = 1 point. (tested on my level 25 alt, not sure if there's a different DE math for other levels). Stars of Discovery and anything that boosts your exp appear to help. Handing in collections helped a lot too. Have fun and good luck!
