5, it worked perfectly fine untill I left clan.

5 tabs are the maximum, technically you can have few more by adding 5 tabs total and then creating a group and raid for 2 extras.

I have group-tab... so does it count as 4 then? I used to have 7tabs with group-, raid- & clantab included.

No, it still counts as 5 max. Once you have five tabs total open be it group;raid + 3 own made or 5 own made - once you reach five total [+] sign to create any more disappears.
